It's all about the journey not so much about the destination. The train ride on the way up to Kuranda gives you spectacular waterfall views. The skyrail on the way down gives you a beautiful view of the rainforest from above. Kuranda village doesn't add much to the experience but there are some nice rainforest walks.
From pick up to drop off the whole experience was amazing. The highlight of the tour for me was the train ride up and the highlight for my husband and grand daughter was the Skyrail back. Well worth the tour.
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of going up a historic railway, browsing the shops at the village (don't drag your feet- plan what to do and go for it - 3hrs flies!!) and the amazing Skyrail!! My sons (under 6) loved the experience too..it was a day well spent..would highly recommend this!
I really enjoyed the full day tour. The views were fantastic. I enjoyed stopping off at the two locations on the Skyrail. The guide at the small walk was very informative. I enjoyed the reading and history information provided.
Took the Savannahlander from Cairns to Kuranda. It departs a little early but well worth it for a much smaller train with lots of history and some 'family's drivers (for those who have seen Railroad Australia). You might even get some extra stops along the way.
My friend and I had so much fun on the Hammer 4WD! The pickup at the Smithfield Skyrail came on time and we were the only 2 persons booked in the morning that day! Our guide Michael spoke fluent Japanese so my Japanese friend felt so comfortable and we had really fun conversations throughout the tour. He is very knowledgeable about nature life and thoroughly showed us around the private rainforest area where we had a drive. Probably we had more timevthan usual to take photos or learn about nature life because it was just two of us! Such a fun, exciting experience with great hospitality :)
we were in the 1 carriage right beside the engine, but I didn't mind the smell. It seems this company always book you to sit in front. If you have a teenage kids better to ask them first before you do this train trip, as the train were full with babies & toddlers, and the steam train more excited for them, even the activities up there in the Kuranda village more suited little kids. The shops their quite expensive as double the prices than you buy in Cairns city.
This was an affordable and easy way to get to Kuranda and the perfect amount of time to explore. Our driver was friendly and helpful. We loved exploring Kuranda and really enjoyed Birdworld. Definitely check out the fudge shop, the fudge is delicious. Also recommend the mango wine and mango liqueur.
Had a great time on the quad bike tour. It's a must do when you visit cairns you even get to see barren falls at the same time. Perry our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the environment which we found most interesting.
Seriously the best thing to do, a personal tour on a quad bike through the rainforest. Pretty awesome! I was a first time quad biker and you learn pretty quickly. Perry is very understnading and makes sure you are 100% confident before you go and explore. I am a local from Cairns and still learned heaps and loved every second of it. We had the best guide that showed us their amazing property and we got to see Cassie and two very young cassowaries. This is seriously a must do for everyone wanting to experience the rainforest first hand. Nothing commercial about this experience, very personal and intimate and Perry's passion for their property is just amazing!
Shuttle driver very polite and experienced. Explain lot of info about local history, nature, ect. Train was amazing, historical carriages, railway, lookouts just perfect. In Kuranda we took long jungle and jum rum walk , butterfly sanctuary, short walk around local markets to buy some presents. After that we took skyrail down to Smithfield, where we wait for bus app. 15 min. Since we took a long walk, I would appreciate 1 hour more for Kuranda free time. We were little bit in hurry.
From the time we were picked up by our knowledgable coach captain we knew we were in for a memorable day. Sky Rail, Koala Park, lunch in the historic Kuranda Hotel, the Barron River Cruise and finally back to Cairns on the Kuranda Tourist train where our coach captain returned us to our Cascade Gardens lodgings. 40 years ago my wife and I plus three young children in toe made our first venture to Cairns. Of course no Sky Rail back then. This is a further six trips down the track, although nowadays we are mainland bound, but still we come across amazing things each time. This time we especially salute the knowledgable river cruise captain who lives the dream many times each day and permits his guests on board to share that dream, even to the point of witnessing a cassowary in the wild perform for we lucky travellers. This modern day cruise captain living the dream reminds one of the inimitable coach captain/raconteur Roger Quested those 40 years ago who also allowed our family to live his dream. Long live FNQ!
Robbie was an excellent driver and tour operator (guide) we had a great time , we are coming back a we didn't see the animals or bird sanctuary ?
Micheal is really amazing and take care of everything, had a long day but totally worth it! Highly recommended!
Had a great time aboard the Kuranda Riverboat Tour. The guide was knowledgeable about the surrounding history and wildlife but also funny. I will never forget that he told my son who thought he saw a crocodile that it was infact a logodile. Had a great time.
Although it was a very wet day we still had an enjoyable trip. Very informative and we did see crocodiles, birds and little tree frogs. With the boat being so quiet we were able to get closer to the crocs and also saw a wee 15 month old one.
Although we didn't see any crocs we did see lots of wildlife and it was a very enjoyable time.
The trip was very well organised. The driver was very prompt and helpful. Plenty to do and see in Kuranda.
My partner and I really enjoyed our cruise. Tour guide was knowledgeable. Got to see wild cassowaries, crocodiles, turtles and fish.
Our tourguide was very knowledgeable and it gave you so much insides of the area around including being the oldest rainforest in the world!! Loved the boat and encounters of the wild life including seeing and meeting the cassowaries. Highly recommended!! A can’t be missed tour!!!
Great ride on river really enjoy it
We were very fortunate to see a pair of wild Cassowaries across the river from the dock , the lady driving the boat took us over to where the Cassowaries were and they came down close apparently Cassowaries are very curious birds and came to check us out. We also saw fresh water crocs and turtles. The lady driving the boat was very informative and knowledgeable about the river.
I really enjoyed the experience, very informative and pleasant. The food could be a little bit better but overall worth the experience.
Great day out, your driver was very informative and friendly. He was very much on time explained everything where we need to be and and gave us a running commentary on what was happening around us when we were driving.
Although it was heavily raining, the performers tried their best to explain and entertain the visitors.
This place has really developed. We came when it first opened, but to see it now, the facilities are first class. The theater presentation was impressive and set the scene. The dancing was interactive and enjoyable. Kids loved the spear and boomerang throwing. Worth the visit.
My granddaughter and I had a amazing day. She loved the train and the gondola.
From start to finish you are immersed in the beautiful culture that is the Aboriginal. Their culture is one that is desirable and to the high tech world that is our current this is an eye opener to how simple but beautiful life could be . I would love to experience the actual Aboriginal cultural lifestyle for a few days. It is a beautiful culture which teaches love and respect for the land we live on. From bush medicines to food from hunting and gathering to celebrating within a tribe. An experience which is a must for those who want to experience the Real Australia and how Australia should be before it was taken over. A great learning experience for kids as well as adults.
This was definitely a unexpected highlight of our family holiday where we were given the opportunity too experience the wonder of our indigenous culture,it was informative and delightful. Our guide Kookaburra made us laugh and enjoy our time together as he explained the wonders of his Culture. Our daughters participated in the art and got to take away a wonderful token and beautiful memory of there time spent here today. The staff were so friendly, the dancers were amazing and everyone was there working together to make our day one too remember. Our family would highly recommend this tour
The show was informative and very interactive. It was great that the audience was encouraged to be involved. The best part is the spear throw before dinner! And the food...yum! Where else do you have the opportunity try emu, crocodile and kangaroo all in the one place? The buffet was delicious and also well signed for gluten free and vegetarian options (which was almost everything too).
Such amazing staff/show/food
Unusual, interesting, great evening - 1st class food! Was so inspired went back the next day to do the tour round the Tjapukai village to learn more - another brilliant experience.
