The first 2 days of your course are conducted in our 5 start air conditioned dive school. Training sessions take place in the speciality designed DIVE pool. Next we take your learning from the pool and onto the Reef! This course included on full day on Fitzroy Island for Island based dives, and one full day on the outer Great Barrier Reef aboard Sunkist
This Island and Reef Open Water Course is a unique to CDC, offering the student 4 outer Great Barrier Reef dives.
Course structure:
- Day 1 - 8:00am Classroom then Pool
- Day 2 - 8:00am Pool then Classroom
- Day 3 - 7am Fitzroy Island for 2 course dives, returning to Cairns
- Day 4 - 7am Travel to Outer Great Barrier Reef for 2 course dives, returning to Cairns
Your purchase includes:
- Gaining your PADI Open Water Dive Certification
- Day trip to Fitzroy Island
- Day trip to the Outer Great Barrier Reef including lunch
- 4 dives
- 5 star training facility

Minimum age: 12 years
Course Start days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Price: $520 +$25 Reef Levy & Admin Fee
$25 Reef Levy & Admin Fee is not included in the prices below and payable direct to the operator on the day
Important information: Attached to your booking is an admin form, if you answer ‘YES’ to any of the medical questions you will be required to obtain a Queensland recreational dive medical clearance from a doctor – there are several qualified practitioners within Cairns who can help with this
If due to medical reasons you are unable to take part in the course we will issue you a full refund for your booking (if a medical is obtained 48 hours before the course)
If you fail 1st day (medical/swimming test) you will forfeit $100 forfeit of the fee

Amazing course!
I was lucky to be on a 2 people group for this course so it was very personalised. Ethan was a star, he’s so knowledgeable and he transfers his enthusiasm and passion for what he does! So do the rest of the crew when we were off to the reef and Fitzroy! By the way the locations are just a dream!! Definitely will keep coming back for more courses to CDC! Thanks a lot!!

If your budget won’t allow it anywhere else
If I had 1 dollar for every time the instructor berate us for being slow or lazy and then waste 5 minutes mentioning how he’s done this 12 years and 9000 dives yada yada I would have been able to spend to do it on liveaboard. His attitude make me embarrassed like he thinks we can’t hear english, know left & right etc and when we want to ask a question he interrupts thinking he can know what we want to ask but just tells us something else instead then we can’t get to ask. Everything is disorganised and even on the boat one instructor is yelling you to go and one tell you get out, poor communication and staff make it stressful and hectic for learning this new skill.

Great Open Water Dive Course
I had great four days with our diving group (six people group size) and our instructor Joey. She is funny, patient and had a lot of very helpful experiences she shared with us. We explored the waters in front of Fitzroy Island and the outer Great Barrier Reef. We saw a giant turtle, some clams, a stingray, a clownfish and lots of other fish. The transfer to Fitzroy Island took approximately one hour and to the outer spot of the Great Barrier Reef approximately two hours. I can totally recommend the course.

Fantastic course!
Ethan was a great instructor who knew absolutely everything there was to know! We were 6 on the course which was a great number we could all get one on one attention when needed. I feel super comfortable to go diving solo (well with a buddy) now! Fully recommend!
