Find pristine Aussie nature and wildlife on this day tour from Airlie Beach. See Platypus in the wild, visit Eungella National Park and swim in the crystal clear rock pools.

Highlights

  • Visit Clark Ranges and Eungella National Park for your chance to see Platypus in their natural environment
  • Finch Hatton Gorge in the Pioneer Valley where you can have a swim in crystal clear waters
  • See waterfalls, lush flora and volcanic rock formations
  • Cool off with a swim in the rock pools
  • Aussie BBQ Lunch included

We pick you up from your Airlie Beach accomodation and leave town at 8am, heading south and onto the Clark Ranges. In these rainforest-clad mountains lies Eungella National Park and the township of Eungella. The park draws its name from an Aboriginal word meaning 'Land of the Clouds' and is Australia's longest, oldest stretch of sub-tropical rainforest, ranging over 51,700 hectares.

Isolation for thousands of years have allowed the rainforest thrive and to hold an abundance of native life such as the platypus, and is one of the limited number of places in Australia to spot this shy creature in its natural environment. It's here you will enjoy a real Aussie BBQ lunch. Then we head off to Finch Hatton Gorge.

If you like the sound of a idilyc landscape of waterfalls, volcanic boulder formations and lush flora, then Finch Hatton Gorge is a must visit.

Several walking tracks that weave their way through sub-tropical rainforests. One of the more popular walks starts at the Finch Hatton picnic area and takes you on a 1.6km journey to the stunning Araluen waterfall. The granite boulders and vegetation make this a great place to take in the scenery. Here you can take a refreshing swim in one of the rock pools, a locals favorite spot in summer. Carry on another 1.4 kilometers and you'll reach the Wheel of Fire Cascades, another beautiful waterfall with a large rock pool at its base, popular for swimming. This later part of the walk is more challenging, with uphill segments and stairs to climb, but the views are worth the effort.

We head back to Airlie Beach feeling refreshed and like we have had a great dose of nature!
