Highlights

  • See the magical sunset colours over the Southern Tasmanian ranges
  • Sights of short-tailed shearwater & albatrosses in flight
  • Learn about the lives of lighthouse keepers
  • Ascend to the top of Cape Bruny Lighthouse, up the spiral staircase

The Iconic Cape Bruny Lighthouse is the only Southern Tasmanian Lighthouse open for tours. You will “self drive” into the South Bruny National Park and arrive at the Cape Bruny Lightstation – well before sunset.

Your friendly guide will meet you in the main car park and issue you with headlamps and jackets prior to ascending the lighthouse. Climb the original wrought iron spiral staircase to the top of the tower and step out onto the balcony to take in the breathtaking views of the sweeping southern ocean to the wild Tasman Sea, South East Cape, Whale Head and the small islands dotting the coastline. Bring your camera for these vast and extraordinary views.

Hear interesting stories about the lighthouse keepers and learn about their fascinating lives. Learn about this early iconic navigational landmark, how it was built by convicts, and how life was for a lighthouse keeper in this far south corner of our world. Watch the sunset over the mountain ranges of Southern Tasmania. Listen to the unforgettable sound of the ocean crashing against the cliffs, see Short-tailed Shearwater landing nearby and Albatross soaring above the wave tops. Group sizes are 2 – 8 people making this a very special and exclusive experience.

At night the Cape Bruny Lightstation is arguably one of the best locations in Tasmania to watch the Southern Aurora.
