See the Victorian gold mining era come to life at Sovereign Hill, discover age-old trades and crafts with demonstrations and hands-on activities.

This fully immersive outdoor museum is brought to life with characters in period costume walking the streets of this reproduction of an 1850s mining town.

Learn traditional skills from rope making to candle dipping and watch demonstrations by our talented confectioners, blacksmiths and wheelwrights. Test out your gold panning skills, tour the mine, watch the street performances and take part in the free and paid activities available throughout the day.

General Admission - enjoy free activities and demonstrations.

Optional extra experiences:

Candle Dipping - $5 per person add on at checkout. Available between 10am and 4.30pm

Learn how candles were traditionally made in the 19th century, before electricity lit homes and streets.

Under the guidance of our costumed staff, visitors dip a wick repeatedly into warm wax,

gradually building their own handcrafted candle to take home. This simple yet engaging activity

offers a tangible connection to daily life on the goldfields and is suitable for all ages.

Mine Tour - 45-minute underground mine experience - $12.50 adult, $7 Child (5-15 years) add on at checkout. Operating daily from 11:00am – 4:00pm

Step back in time and discover the underground world of Ballarat’s gold rush era. Join our guided Mine Tour and explore the recreated gold mines beneath Sovereign Hill, where experienced guides will share fascinating stories about the lives of miners and the challenges they faced in the 1850s. This experience brings history to life and offers visitors a unique perspective on how gold was discovered and extracted during Australia’s famous gold rush.

  • Infants aged 0-4 go free and can be added through checkout.

Tickets for sovereign hill

The process was easy to select and pay for the tickets for Sovereign Hill and saved us total of $21 for 2 people general admission. Just ensure you are selecting the date across the top with the date you are attending as the range of prices are different for different days.
