30 years ago, Brian and Jill Perry pioneered commercial Whale Watching in Australia, in Hervey Bay. After 30 years ‘Hervey Bay Whale Watch’ was sold to friends the ‘Peaker Family’.

Johnno use to fly the spotter plane for Brian when he was busy but was keen to join the fun on the water so he started working on the boat with Brian in 1987 and qualified as a Skipper with Hervey Bay Whale Watch in 1989.

Johno perused a career as a commercial pilot but always maintained a close connection with the whale watch fleet and did occasional skipper jobs as much as possible.

30 years later he was flying over Quick Cat II and was struck by how good the boat looked moving in the water – It happened that Johno was looking for a Family business - one thing led to another and he and his family ( Josh, Sam and Kate ) took over the business in 2017 with the team all keen to share our amazing area and whales with our guests.

So it has gone full circle and the Perrys are confident that the business is in good hands with part of the original crew at the helm.

Join the team at Hervey Bay Whale Watch for a fun, educational and exciting Whale Watch experience aboard Quick Cat II.

Our team try their hardest to give everyone a chance at this amazing experience. However, Whale Swims cannot be 100% guaranteed as we are working with wild animals and need appropriate conditions to ensure this is a safe and enjoyable experience.

For a higher chance of a Whale Swim please note that the best time is between July through until early September. After early September we start seeing more mothers and calves arrive and although this is a wonderful sight to see , legislation prohibits Whale Swims with mothers and calves.

Water temperature on average varies from 19 to 23 degrees, however once being in the water most people forget about the temperature when face to face with our friendly and curious Humpback Whales.

Good day out!

Good day out! Lots of whales and calf’s. The staff was lovely and super friendly especially Tim. Lots of whale knowledge was given, we couldn’t swim with the whales due to the calf’s but the crew was honest about this from the start :) Complimentary tea, coffee and muffin but take some extra snacks with you or you can buy from the bar. Whales where a little quiet but the captain let us stay longer as we found a playful calf on the way back! So we could get some jumping action. Highly recommend!
