Experience the thrill of the whitewater rapids in the Barron Gorge on this river boarding expedition!
Join us for an unforgettable day of river boarding down the grade 3 whitewater rapids of Barron Gorge.
This tour will take you into the spectacular rainforest for the adventure of a lifetime! Our friendly and professional guides will be there to teach you what to do and ensure your safety and enjoyment.
The destination is just a short 20km drive from the Cairns city area, making this the ideal location for our half day River boarding tours.
When we arrive, you will be geared up by our staff in wetsuit pants, knee and shin guards, a life jacket, fins and a helmet. Our experienced guides will run through a training session, which will teach you the basics in white water and river boarding. They’ll also teach you how to swim through a rapid and how to use the board, as well as some handy tricks and tips.
Once everyone is confident, it’s time to begin the tour and take on the Rapids! There are 11 rapids in the section of Barron River we run, with one grade 3 rapid called the Cheese Churn. We finish off with some river surfing, at Mother In-Law. This half day tour is a great afternoon adventure, it will have you walking away with a huge rush and plenty of self-achievement.
Things to note:
Pick-Ups: We pick up from outside Gilligan's Hostel and the Cairns Night Markets (Abbott Street Side) within the Cairns CBD area. If you are staying outside Cairns and driving a vehicle in, we meet at CanyonBase – Boland St, Bungalow 4870.
Thank you guys
If you’re after a fun and unique way to ride down the river rapids, look no further than Cairns canyoning. The staff are amazing and knowledgeable. Such a fun experience. We loved it so much that we booked in the very next day for a different adventure (canyoning) best times.
Thank you guys
Cheers Naomi, great to hear you guys had an awesome time

So much fun and no experience required
My 12 year old picked this tour for his birthday and I was apprehensive thinking you'd need some form of experience.... this is not the case at all. The guys give you a safety briefing and make sure you understand the basics in the water before you head down stream for some fun. I had a couple of stacks but it's easy to get back onto the board and keep going. You're shown which path to take at each rapid to ensure you know the safest way to go. We all had a ball and highly recommend the tour!
