Typical, rushed, overpriced, blah blah blah. Nah, BUGGER THAT!!! Swim in volcanic crater lakes, take a dip under breath-taking waterfalls and slide down a natural waterslide around the Atherton Tablelands!
Travel in style with us as we take you to our favorite spots in the World Heritage Wet Tropics Rainforest on our MUST-DO full day Atherton Tablelands Waterfalls tour. Departing daily we all about fun, adventure, laughs and swimming in some of the best spots to visit in the Cairns region.
Barefoot Tours customizes the route and the timings of the day based on the weather and yourselves! This means as a group, you can choose when you are ready to leave each spot. If we have time up our sleeves we will make extra stops like Dinner falls, Ellinjaa falls, Zillie falls, Babinda Boulders, Nandroya falls, Henrietta creek plus there are a few more to choose from. On average we visit 4-7 locations a day + lookouts.
Lookouts – This one is weather dependent but there are up to 3 amazing lookouts each over different landscapes ranging from a breathtaking mountain range to views over the farmlands. If it has been raining we may stop off at the Barron falls which is magnificent after a huge downpour!
Josephine falls – A series of cascading waterfalls - the bottom pool is open to the public where you have the possibility to try Josephine’s natural rock slide. Not only is this a locals favourite swimming spot, but Australia also agrees that this is one of their most beautiful waterfalls boasting pristine fresh water from the Mount Bartle Frere.
Volcanic Crater Lake Eacham – Serene crystal clear blue lake that's up to 65m deep. Over 180 bird species have been recorded here, as well as the musky rat-kangaroo. It’s not often you can take a refreshingly cool dip in a volcanic crater lake, definitely, a must do on your Aussie tour.
500yr old Fig Tree – We visit the ancient mystic roots of a half-century old fig tree. If you have ever seen the movie Avatar, then this is where a lot of the ideas for the movie came about - check out the unique resemblance!
Millaa Millaa Falls – A magnificent waterfall surrounded by lush rainforests, one of the most photographed waterfalls in Australia due to the Herbal Essence hair flick ad back in the ’90s. There is the possibility of seeing turtles & some have even caught a glimpse of a platypus here (although we are yet to see one here).
Departure: Please be at Gilligan’s by 7:25am & look for a bright orange and green bus with “Barefoot Tours” written down the side. We leave Gilligan’s at 7:30am, so don’t be late, we can’t wait!
Make sure to bring your camera for all the cool stops we make or the possibility of spotting some of Australia’s endemic wildlife like the famous cassowaries, the green tree frog, platypus, turtles, tree kangaroos and possibly even a croc!
The day finishes around 6:30 - 7:30 pm, we can drop you off anywhere in the Cairns CBD city area 3km radius – for those who want to go straight out afterward. The Atherton Tablelands is around an hours drive from Cairns, the time between locations range from 10mins to 45mins and this covers part of the World Heritage Rainforests, Waterfalls, Volcanic Crater Lake and whatever else we find in between!
So, if you are ready to have your (They are actually called Thongs) flip-flops blown away then join up for a fun, adventurous, relaxed stress-free day in the Atherton Tablelands.
Thank you Olga for the reccomendation :-)
Thanks Ben, for your feedback. I'm sorry about the mossquitos! We actually have repellant and sunscreen on the buses as a backup - it's a bugger the guide must have forgotten about it. If you ever come back to Cairns - jump on tour again with us :-)
