Typical, rushed, overpriced, blah blah blah. Nah, BUGGER THAT!!! Snorkel from Dunk Island, Explore the town of Mission Beach, Check out one of Australia’s wettest towns (Tully) and take a refreshing swim in a freshwater creek.
Travel in style with us as we take you into the Wet Tropics of Far North Queensland on their brand new Mission Beach & Dunk Island Day Tour. Departing Tuesdays & Thursdays. We are all about fun, adventure, laughs and swimming in some of the best places to visit in along the Cassowary Coast just outside of Cairns; like Dunk Island, Tully and Mission Beach.
We customize the route and the timings of the day based on the weather and yourselves! This means as a group, you can choose when you are ready to leave each spot, with only Dunk Island being restricted with timing. If we have time up our sleeves, we may make extra stops like Etty Bay, Murray Falls, Mena Creek falls (Paronella Park viewing area), Henrietta creek plus there are a few more to choose from. On average we visit 4-7 locations a day + lookouts.
Lookouts – This one is weather dependent but there are up to 2 amazing lookouts each over the ocean, one from Dunk Island and one from the mainland looking towards Dunk Island. If it has been raining or if it is too cloudy, we’ll skip both lookouts.
Mission Beach Town – The Quaint small town of Mission beach, you’ll have free time here to enjoy the cute boutique shops, have a refreshing bevy or chill out on the beach.
Dunk Island – Boasting of lush rainforest, birdlife, a hike to Mt Kootaloo and a fringing reef system, Dunk Island is one of the larger islands of the beaten track from Mission Beach.
Lacey Creek – is a circuit through the Djiru National Park, with lowland rainforest a variety of interesting plant life, a creek that runs through it and the possibility to spot some of the famous wildlife in the area like the Cassowary.
Alligators Nest – Is a freshwater creek, that splits into three ways and shallow water for a cool refreshing swim. There is BBQ facilities here, grass to lay out on and plenty of tables under shelter too.
The Golden Gumboot Tully – Tully is famous for being one of the wettest towns in Australia, the golden gumboot represents the record rainfall for Tully from 1950 which was 7.93 metres.
Departure: Please be at Gilligan’s by 7:25am & look for a bright orange and green bus with “Barefoot Tours” written down the side. We leave Gilligan’s at 7:30am, so don’t be late, we can’t wait!
Make sure to bring your camera for all the cool stops we make or the possibility of spotting some of Australia’s endemic wildlife like the famous cassowaries, the green tree frog, platypus, turtles, tree kangaroos and possibly even a croc!
The day finishes around 6:30 - 7:30 pm, we can drop you off anywhere in the Cairns CBD city area 3km radius – for those who want to go straight out afterward. Mission Beach is a 2 hour drive from Cairns, so please be aware it is a bit of a drive at the start and the end of the day, once we reach our first destination time between locations is between 10mins to 45mins and this covers part of the World Heritage Rainforest, beaches, swim holes and whatever else we find in between!
So, if you are ready to have your (They are actually called Thongs) flip-flops blown away then join up for a fun, adventurous, relaxed stress-free day over at Dunk Island & Mission Beach.
